Shenzhen –The Original Super City
Shenzhen is located in the southern portion of the Guangdong Province and is located immediately north of Hong Kong. In 1979 it was decided that because of Shenzhen’s close proximity to Hong Kong, that this humble fishing village would be the first area to be declared a Special Economic Zone which opened the doors for foreign investment and development. The idea was to create a closed off area in which to test market reforms without threatening the established political and economic systems. The city flourished and is now one of the four top tier cities in China and is widely considered one of the fastest growing cities in the world with an estimated population of 14 million.
